The Idea Behind the Project
A private and internal system for product tracking and control for an eCommerce site that sells phones, tablets, laptops and smart watches.
It allows for the adjustment of product quantity or price and synchronization of product quantities across other services such as eBay, Shopify, Refurbed, Amazon and BackMarket in order to prevent overselling on the platforms and maintain accurate inventory levels.
Project Challenges
The client was looking for a team of experienced software developers to realize internal processes automation for their online store.
The vision for the system was to remove redundant procedures, implement new ones, making it more digital, simplified and profitable.
Main goals:
- Development of the inventory automation system from scratch
- User interface must match business logic
- Automatic synchronization with several marketplaces, if the product is sold from one, then the balances are changed automatically on another
- Automation of the product sales process using the database
- There must be a strong architecture for future integrations
- Ability to scan barcodes for entering into the database
Provided Solutions
Inventory System from Scratch
We developed a program with several employee roles (administrator, grader, flasher, sales manager) that would allow for closing the full cycle of work with a product: from receipt to sale through adding to the database and marketplaces.
Inventory Synchronization
In order to prevent overselling our team implemented an automatic synchronization of the inventory levels across all connected platforms when a product is sold on one of the platforms.
SKU Management
We introduced the SKU management system when each product is assigned a unique SKU (a stock-keeping unit) to identify, track, and organize retail inventory across platforms and prevent discrepancies in product quantities.
QR Code Scanning
In order to manage thousands of products smoothly, we made it possible for the system to generate and print QR codes for each of the devices that would track their stage and keep employees updated.
